‘13 Reasons Why’ to end with Season 4 — and no more suicide

The third season of controversial Netflix hit “13 Reasons Why” will have one notable difference from the previous seasons: There will be no suicide.

Instead, Season 3 will switch genres into murder-mystery territory, taking a leaf out of “Riverdale’s” book as rapist Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice) dies, making Clay (Dylan Minnette) a suspect.

Previous seasons of the show have explored the circumstances surrounding Hannah’s (Katherine Langford) suicide and how it impacted her community. Now, it’s veering into a suspenseful drama surrounding her rapist — whom she cited as one of her reasons for ending her life.

The teen drama has come under fire for its graphic depiction of teen suicide, and Netflix increase in the teen suicide rate.

And yet, despite all the controversy — or maybe because of it — the series has continued to be a hit for Netflix, as one of the platform’s reportedly tuned in for Season 2.

Season 3 isn’t even the final season. That will be Season 4, Netflix has announced. There’s no premiere date yet, but the final season will follow the characters as they graduate high school.

Season 3 premieres Aug. 23.
