Severe weather in the New York region forced hundreds of flight cancellations and delays at the area’s three major airports on Wednesday.
As of 6:03 p.m., 426 flights had been canceled out of Newark, LaGuardia and Kennedy airports, and another 500 were delayed — close to half of the total flights scheduled, according to FlightAware.
Travelers took to Twitter to complain about their hours-long waits for departure.
“.@Delta going on five hours of a delay out of JFK – is flight DL1922 ever going to depart, or are you stringing me along for an inevitable cancellation?” said user @JLewin09.
A spokesperson for the Port Authority, which manages the three airports, advised flyers to check with their airline for more information.
