These two fast-food chicken chains are having a major beef.
Chick-fil-A has long held the top spot for America’s favorite chicken sandwich, but recently Southern fried chicken franchise Popeyes has come up with its own delicious version, which many eaters say gives the so-called “Home of the Original Chicken Sandwich” a run for its money.
So groundbreaking is the new sandwich — featuring crispy fried chicken breast in mild or spicy, pickles and mayo on a pillowy brioche bun — it has become a full-fledged meme in just a few days.
Many on social media seem shook by the swift Popeyes takeover.
“That Popeye’s spicy chicken sandwich is gon be a problem,” tweeted screenwriter Crissle West.
Said Desus Nice of Bodega Boys fame, “Where did Popeyes get this ability to weaponize chicken from and should we be concerned?”
One disappointed diner was unfortunately caught in the crosshairs of the viral debate when she had her Popeyes sandwich allegedly stolen.
“My @DoorDash delivery person really stole my Popeye’s chicken sandwich and will not answer the phone,” claimed writer Yaminah Mayo on Twitter.
As the Louisiana chicken chain continues its presumed victory lap across social media, Chick-fil-A is quietly standing its ground.
“Bun + Chicken + Pickles = all the ❤️ for the original,” the Christian-backed franchise tweeted.
