Feds to seek death penalty for Pittsburgh synagogue shooter

Federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty for an anti-Semite who gunned down 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue last year, according to court papers filed Monday.

Robert Bowers, 46, faces 63 federal charges in connection with the Oct. 27 mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh.

He was the Tribune-Review reported.

Bowers, who frequently posted anti-Semitic slurs online, walked into the synagogue with three Glock .357-caliber handguns and a Colt AR-15 rifle and shouted about his desire to “kill Jews.”

He opened fire, killing nearly a dozen worshipers.

Five police officers were also injured when they responded to the scene.
