Man pleads not guilty to murdering Kentucky mom Savannah Spurlock

The Kentucky man accused of murdering a young mom-of-four after a January night out has pleaded not guilty.

Savannah Spurlock, 22, a mother to newborn twins, was last spotted leaving a bar in Lexington with accused murderer David Sparks and two other men on Jan. 4, the Kentucky Courier-Journal reported.

Six months later, her body was discovered buried outside a home owned by alleged murderer David Sparks’ parents and wrapped in a rug that resembled one in Sparks’ bedroom, according to cops.

Police say Sparks reached out to his sister following the Lexington outing to ask where the rug was purchased and later bought a replacement at Walmart that was uncovered during the search.

He told police Spurlock spent the night in his bedroom, asked for his address in the morning, and was gone before he woke up around noon.

About three months before her body was discovered in the shallow grave, cops found a blood stain belonging to Spurlock on a door in Sparks’ bedroom. Her body was uncovered in July after Sparks’ father reported smelling a foul odor coming from the yard, leading to the 23-year-old’s arrest.

Sparks entered his plea Friday and is due back in court Nov. 1, according to the Courier-Journal.
