Pittsburgh Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez was arrested Tuesday on charges that he solicited a teenage girl for sex, according to authorities.
Vazquez, 28, is accused of repeatedly sending explicit images and texts to the alleged victim, who is now 15, over a two-year period — including that he wants to meet up for sex after the baseball season.
The charges stem from a probe launched last month after Florida investigators received tips that the pitcher “had a reported sexual relationship” with the Florida teen starting when she was 13.
The contact allegedly continued into this year, with the girl receiving a video of the pitcher “performing a sex act” in July, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said.
Vazquez is being held at the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh after being busted on a felony warrant out of Lee County, Fla., and is awaiting extradition to the Sunshine State, according to WTAE-TV.
Florida authorities launched their investigation into Vazquez last month. He allegedly sent the girl explicit text messages and a video of him performing a sex act.
He is charged with solicitation of a child and providing obscene material to minors.
Florida police executed a search warrant at Vazquez’s home in Pittsburgh and seized several electronic devices, WTAE said.
Last week, Vazquez was involved in a clubhouse fight that ended the season of fellow Pirates reliever Kyle Crick.
