Two women were killed and a young child wounded in a shooting at a residence hall at Texas A&M University-Commerce on Monday, according to officials.
University police officers responding to the Pride Rock Residence Hall on the sprawling campus at about 10:17 a.m. found the two dead women in one of the rooms.
“A third person, a small child who is approximately 2 years old who is in stable condition, was also in the room,” Texas A&M Commerce Police Chief Bryan Vaughn said.
Police have not released the identities of the victims nor any details about the shooting or a possible motive.
The Pride Rock building is a three-story facility open to first-year students.
The university initially issued a “shelter in place” order to students. The order was lifted about an hour later, but police remained on the scene.
Classes at the Commerce school were canceled for the remainder of the day, the university said.
