Chiefs’ Frank Clark shreds Jimmy Garoppolo after Super Bowl win

Some of the biggest hits Jimmy Garoppolo endured during Super Bowl 2020 took place off the field.

After the Chiefs rallied in the fourth quarter for failing to deliver on the biggest NFL stage.

“You paying the guy $140 million, $130 million, whatever he’s getting paid, man,” Clark said postgame to Fox Sports, according to NBC Sports Bay Area. “He’s gotta throw the ball. Obviously he didn’t do that. They threw for about 200 yards on checkdowns; that ain’t enough to win a game against us.”

Garoppolo’s first Super Bowl as a starter got off to a nightmarish start, when the quarterback appeared to close his eyes before being picked off in the second quarter. Garoppolo, who signed a five-year, $137.5 million contract two years ago, completed 20 of 31 attempts during the game for 219 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions.

“We missed some shots tonight, some plays that we usually make,” Garoppolo said postgame. “It was a tough one.”

Garoppolo came up short in a big moment, overthrowing receiver Emmanuel Sanders on a possible deep touchdown that would have given the 49ers back the lead in the final minutes.

“We got rolling on a right note and couldn’t finish off,” Garoppolo said. “Hell of a ride, but at the end of the day people just remember the wins and losses.”
