The Department of Education has nixed a bid to move a community meeting with schools boss Richard Carranza from Chinatown to Chelsea after a Post story on the move.
Claiming that the auditorium at MS 131 Sun Yat Sen on was too small, the DOE pressed Community Education Council 2 to move the District 2 town hall to a Chelsea high school this week.
Several members said they were baffled by the request in light of deepening tensions between Asian New Yorkers and Carranza and noted that he had previously appeared at the venue without complication.
“We have to in good faith start closing these divisions,” said CEC member Edward Irizarry. “I don’t understand why they would do this.”
