Trump cancels trips to Colorado, Nevada as coronavirus spreads

President Donald Trump has canceled his upcoming trips to Colorado and Nevada amid rising coronavirus cases across the country.

“Out of an abundance of caution from the coronavirus outbreak, the President has decided to cancel his upcoming events in Colorado and Nevada,” White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement following the president’s Oval Office address.

Trump had planned to travel to Denver for a fundraiser luncheon on Friday with Republican National Committee leaders.

He was then scheduled to head to Las Vegas, where he was billed as the keynote speaker at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting on Saturday.

Trump in his address earlier Wednesday night said that he will suspend all travel from many European countries in a desperate effort to combat the spread of COVID-19. He also unveiled emergency measures in an attempt to counteract the economic impact of the virus.

The 30-day travel ban applies to travelers from the 26-country Schengen area, meaning visitors from countries like Ireland, Russia and Turkey would not be barred.
