The New York attorney general has demanded that 78 upstate medical transport companies stop taking multiple riders per trip in violation of state rules issued during the COVID-19 crisis.
AG Letitia James sent cease-and-desist letters to companies that give rides to Medicaid recipients in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany, instructing them that they must follow a mandate issued by the New York State Department of Health limiting them to one passenger per trip — an effort to contain the highly contagious bug.
“For these companies to continue to conduct group medical transport rides in the face of an explicit prohibition during the unprecedented outbreak of a highly contagious disease, is simply and completely unacceptable,” James said in a prepared statement.
James has issued a series of similar letters to crack down on misconduct during the outbreak.
On Thursday, James issued a warning to a CBD oil company that advertised that its product protects against the virus.
The AG also ordered three air purifier companies to stop claiming their machines could fight coronavirus.
She sent a letter to conspiracy theorist talk show host Alex Jones telling him to stop leading listeners to believe his silver-infused toothpaste could kill the virus. Jones denied any wrongdoing.
