How Naomi Campbell became poster girl for coronavirus safety

Naomi Campbell is in her underwear.

The supermodel isn’t shy about telling me just that when the first question I ask her over the phone is “What are you wearing?”

“Right now I’m wearing a white [Azzedine] AlaÏa shirt,” Campbell tells The Post as she’s about to change into her workout gear. “On the bottom, I’m just in my underwear.”

With only Zoom and other video conferencing calls to worry about during the stay-at-home lockdown, Campbell now only dresses from the waist up sometimes. But that face is still fierce and flawless in her new daily YouTube series, “No Filter With Naomi,” which premiered Monday. The show features Campbell chatting with guests such as Cindy Crawford, Marc Jacobs and Nicole Richie — from her home to theirs.

As she nears turning 50 next month, Campbell has been having a moment. In addition to “No Filter,” a limited-run series, she is a judge and producer on Amazon Prime’s new show “Making the Cut,” a fashion-design competition. And before we went into full a viral YouTube video, posted last July, which showed her extreme disinfecting routine on airplanes.

“My girlfriend said to me, ‘Can I film you doing it? Have you ever filmed it?’ I said, ‘No.’ And we filmed it on the phone,” says Campbell, whose sanitizing regimen goes back to the early ’00s. “It wasn’t disrespect to the airline in any way . . . I just gave an insight to what I do.”

But Campbell’s hyper-hygienic ways have extended beyond her airplane seat. “Doing the job that I do, I’m in different hotels . . . I have to make it comfortable and hygienic enough for me to, you know, be there,” she says. “Listen, I have scrubbed the hotel shower many a time. I don’t care.”

In March, Campbell was spotted strutting through the airport in a full hazmat suit, which, she admits, even she couldn’t make look chic. “I didn’t,” she says. “I bought that in the middle of January. I wanted to have it, and I didn’t feel it was crazy or over the top to get it. I felt like it was right to get it. And my girlfriend, Linda Evangelista, told me to get the goggles.”

Now she’s been in self-isolation in New York for a month. “I’m happy in isolation,” says Campbell, recognizing the need to “abide by the rules.” But between her home workouts she’s been livestreaming on her Instagram stories and her new YouTube series, she’s still been very busy. “It’s been very hectic around here,” says Campbell, who sticks to her morning routine: “I get up, then I pray and I have to make the bed.”

“No Filter With Naomi” certainly has made it more important for Campbell to not slack off, even in the comfort of a T-shirt and sweatpants — which, yes, she wears at home. “I wear practical clothes, darling, like everybody else,” she says. “I’m grateful, grateful when I don’t have to be in high heels.”

“No Filter” came together in no time, she says: “It happened so quickly. From last week to this week, it’s in action.”

Campbell thinks of her talks on the show more as conversations than interviews. No, she’s not trying to be the next Oprah. “I’m just in there talking to someone that I know, and I’m letting the world see us having a conversation. That’s how it is in my head,” she says. “Everyone I’ve called [to be on the show] has been so gracious — even the ones who don’t do interviews normally.”

Having the fab four. “They are like my chosen family. We are each other’s chosen family. We grew up together. And you’ll be hearing from us this year, next year. We’re actually working together.”

And Campbell is still killing the catwalk –– after all these years, her pose game is as strong as ever. “It’s still fun to do it, especially for friends and people that you’ve grown up with,” she says. “I still have the enthusiasm when I’m asked to do a show. But I’m still extremely nervous . . . because I want to be the best I can for them.”

And while she’s been representing for black models since the late ’80s, she says diversity has improved in the industry. “Yes, it has — absolutely,” says Campbell. “Most important now is that everyone gets equal pay. Yes, it’s great that the diversity has been embraced fully. But now they have to get the same pay rate.”

The British-born beauty is still making moves herself in the modeling world: Although it was long overdue, she landed her first beauty contract in late 2018, with Nars Cosmetics.

But birthday plans — she turns 50 on May 22 — aren’t currently on the agenda. “I don’t have any plans for my birthday — I don’t wanna have any,” says Campbell. “And it’s really weird . . . not that I knew this was gonna happen, I just didn’t have any plans. I don’t wanna have any expectations. This is not the time for any of us to have expectations. You have to take each day as it comes.”
