Migrant in custody dead after shooting at border patrol station in El Paso
A migrant was shot and killed while in custody at a US Customs and Border Protection station in Texas on Tuesday, officials and a report said.
Border Patrol agents assigned to the Ysleta station in the city of El Paso were involved in the shooting, which took place at the station around 12:45 p.m., a CBP spokesperson told The Post in a statement.
CBP did not reveal what led to the deadly incident, but a spokesperson for the National Border Patrol Council told Fox News that the migrant “went for an agent’s gun” before the shooting.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead, authorities said.
The migrant was a Mexican citizen who was being processed at the station on criminal charges, El Paso Times reported, citing the Mexican Consulate in El Paso.
The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident. The El Paso Police Department and CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility also responded to the scene.
FBI officials did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for additional information.
