Driver arrested in NYC crash that ended in gunfight was seeking revenge: police sources
The driver who plowed into a pedestrian and storefront in Washington Heights on Saturday claimed to have acted out of revenge after his victim and another man tried to rob him earlier in the day, police sources said.
Luis Rosado, 30, was arrested on charges of criminal weapons possession and resisting arrest after the altercation, in which the still-unidentified pedestrian fired a gun at least once at Rosado’s 2017 Dodge Challenger, according to an NYPD spokesman.
Rosado also plowed the sports car into a nearby business on the corner of West 163th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, police said.
He attempted to flee on foot before cops apprehended him on West 162nd Street. The man who fired his gun fled on foot and has not been caught, NYPD said in a statement.
Rosado never discharged his weapon, which was uncovered after his arrest, police said.
No one was injured by any bullets during the altercation, according to NYPD.
At least 54 people have been injured in car crashes on St. Nicholas Ave. so far this year, including pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicle occupants, according to publicly available city stats.
