I woke up from a monthlong coma with a new, surprising talent

A man with no artistic talent as a kid is now selling his artwork as an adult, following a harrowing illness.

Married father Moe Hunter was in a coma for more than a month in 2004 after being diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and tuberculosis in his brain.

Hunter, 38, said he awoke from brain surgery with no memory, but instead, a brand new flair for art.

“I really wasn’t creative before in the slightest, in fact, people used to laugh at my drawings,” Hunter told South West News Service. “I was more interested in going out, football and computer games.”

Hunter, who hails from England, fought for his life as doctors installed a shunt to drain fluid from his brain, which left him in a coma.

When he woke up, he had no memory.

“I woke up on Oct. 13, 2004. I don’t remember anything before 2004 — everything has been relayed to me by family and friends,” he said.

Hunter said his family still can’t believe his newfound ability, describing it as “insane.”

“They’re still completely shocked,” he said. “It’s insane, but when I spoke to the neurologist, he just said, ‘Enjoy it,’ and said there’s so much about the brain they still can’t decipher, and this is just a phenomenon.”

Hunter has sold pieces of his artwork and displayed his amazing creations at Comic Con events across the country.

Taking his doctor’s advice to enjoy his gift, Hunter is now a carpenter. He also builds intricate life-size model replicas from TV and film, including R2-D2, Chappie and an AT-ST from “Star Wars.”

He’s also dabbled in creative writing by penning his own comic story, which he says he “never would have touched before.”

“I’m doing all of my own illustrations for it. I’m also writing a screenplay,” he said. “I’ve got all the ideas, but no idea how to do bring it to life.”

“I’m just doing what my neurologist told me to do and just trying to enjoy it,” he says of his talent. “I just feel incredibly lucky.”
