Biden to let hundreds of thousands more migrants into US while deporting non-Mexicans to Mexico

President Biden is forging a deal with Mexico that would allow hundreds of thousands more migrants enter the US legally — and see non-Mexican illegals deported back to Mexico, a new report reveals.

Under the new policy, for the first time the US would be able to fast-track the expulsion of arrivals from countries including Venezuela, Haiti, Nicaragua and Cuba who cross the border unlawfully to neighboring Mexico.

The deal that is in the works between the US and Mexico hinges on the Biden administration creating new legal pathways for migrants, and also expanding the existing parole process.

Illegal migrants would be arrested, locked up in immigration detention, deported to Mexico, barred from the US for five years and threatened with felony charges and jail time if they try to unlawfully cross the border again.

The move comes as Title 42 — the COVID-era public health measure that has allowed the Border Patrol to rapidly expel migrants who had entered the US illegally — is about to expire.

The emergency policy that was enacted under President Donald Trump was originally scheduled to end in December but was extended. The US Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments on Title 42 in the spring.

US immigration officials previously complained that the record numbers of illegal crossings over the past year were caused by the administration’s inability to return migrants to their home countries.

During the 2022 fiscal year alone, the US Customs and Border Protection stopped migrants 2.4 million times, an annual record.

In December, border officers logged more than 251,000 migrant arrests — the highest monthly total on record.

This new plan, which is being touted by its supporters as a breakthrough for Biden, is designed to act as a deterrent for migrants seeking to enter the US illegally.

The Washington Post reported, citing the Federal Register Notices and officials with knowledge of the plans, that the deportations would be carried out using the fast-track process known as “expedited removal.”

Doris Meissner, the top US immigration official during the Clinton administration, called the deportation policy under discussion a “game changer” that would usher in a “new era.”

Parole applicants are directed to use the app CBP One to schedule an asylum appointment at a port of entry, or seek a two-year permit to live and work in the US, provided that they have a sponsor here.

Parole status is renewable, and migrants also can try to apply for asylum once they arrive in the US.

While Mexico has long resisted accepting non-Mexican deportees from the US, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has reportedly signaled that he would be willing to take in foreign nationals from specific countries.

Mexican officials would not comment on the negotiations concerning the proposed policy change that would result in an influx of migrants into the country.

“There are ongoing conversations about the different scenarios given the changing legal, policy, and human mobility landscape,” Roberto Velasco, the Mexican Foreign Ministry’s chief officer for North America, said in a statement to the Washington Post. “So far, there aren’t any decisions on the next steps for our migratory cooperation.”
