Police investigating Eagles fans who smashed, flipped cars before Super Bowl

Philadelphia police are investigating incidents in which one car was heavily vandalized and another was flipped during chaos in the city before kickoff of Super Bowl 2023 on Sunday.

Fox 29 reports that Philadelphia and Temple University police have gotten “many, many tips identifying those seen in surveillance images flipping Volvo Sunday” and are also gathering information on a 70-year-old’s Ford Taurus whose windshield was smashed.

The video shows a man smashing the Taurus that belonged to Richard Pierce and was parked with a handicap tag on Arlington Street. In the clip, a man was smashing the vehicle before getting attacked by another man, who appeared to ask the vandal, “What the f–k are you doing?”

Pierce spoke to the reporter about seeing his car get damaged.

“It got so noisy and I went to the window to look and I saw the crowd, and I saw this young lady actually jumping up and down on my hood,” Pierce said. “And I ran to the door to tell her to get off my car but the crowd was so large that I couldn’t get out. So I pushed the screen door to try to make the people turn around, and asked them if they could make that young lady get off my car. She got off.

“And then, a little later I heard a fight. So I went to the window to see the fight and it was two guys out here fighting. My neighbor came outside and said, ‘Come and look at the damage they did to your car.’ That’s when I saw the damage. My neighbor crossed the street and saw him do it — he ran across the street and punched him in the mouth.”
