Mets use World War II veteran Seymour Weiner to promote $1 hot dog night in aggressive social media post

The Mets are having some fun with their $1 hot dog night promotion. 

Earlier this season the team honored World War II veteran Seymour Weiner as their Veteran of the Game, and the name caught the attention of Mets fans on social media. 

It seems the Mets caught on to the joke as well.

The team put up a post on X about the $1 hot dog night using the Weiner as part of an image promoting the night. 

“Seymour Weiner wants YOU to come to Dollar Dog Night,” the Mets posted on X with an accompanying graphic that included an image of Weiner with a hot dog photoshopped into his hand. 

Underneath the information about what day the Dollar Dog Night is, a line reads, “A Seymour Weiner approved message.” 

The $1 hot dog promotion is limited to four hot dogs per person and is only valid for Nathan’s Original Hot Dogs, according to information provided by the Mets. 

The event will take place when the Mets take on the Cubs next Tuesday. 

Naturally, fans had a field on social media with the Mets’ decision to lean into the joke in order to promote the $1 hot dogs. 

“When the Mets get it right, they get it right! I just love Seymour Weiner,” one user on X posted. 

“Mets better bring Seymour Weiner back for Dollar Dogs night, dude is an absolute legend now,” another person posted. 

“Joey Chestnut and Seymour Weiner goin dog for dog at the game,” a third person replied to the Mets post. 

Weiner had been honored during the Mets’ home opener on March 29 at Citi Field. 

The Mets were 12-11 entering Wednesday, when they played the Giants to finish a west coast road trip that took them through Los Angeles and San Francisco.
