The Issue: Michael Goodwin’s column on the problems with the Trump hush-money trial in New York.

I am thankful for The Post’s excellent column (“New York v. Don: Ain’t that a sham,” May 26).

There’s nothing true or just about using the courts as a political tool to extirpate an adversary on spurious criminal charges. It’s blatantly un-American. And yet there’s neither resistance nor objection from within the judiciary.

If the firmest pillar of justice fails, it’s only a matter of time before the entire structure implodes. Perhaps that’s always been the goal of the woke Marxist leftists and their handlers who are ardently pursuing the dubious prosecutions of former President Donald Trump.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office has been hijacked by a political hack who seeks to make a name for himself through the criminal prosecution of a former president.

The only way he could achieve this was to partner with a morally bankrupt judge who was also eager to drag his office through the mud to make a name for himself. With every passing day, the Trump trial looked and sounded like something only Orwell could have imagined.

The Trump trial has exposed the world at large to the naked politicization of the US justice system, beginning with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s campaign platform that blatantly outlined legal action against Trump.

And despite former federal prosecutor Robert Costello’s extensive experience, impeccable honesty and credibility, he apparently was unable to convince the grand jury of the entirety of the truth regarding Trump’s innocence.

The prosecution in the Trump trial has not met its burden of proof, as shown through both the its refusal to call Allen Weisselberg to the witness stand and its attempt to silence former prosecutor Robert Costello.

An innocent verdict would not just be a victory for Trump, but also a stand for justice. A trial like this against a former president, who is also the leading Republican presidential candidate, is an affront to the rule of law.

The Issue: Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s public contributions amid charges of election interference.

America suffered the worst attack in its history on 9/11 (“Rudy Giuliani pleads not guilty to felony charges in Arizona election interference case,” May 21).

Thousands, including hundreds of members of the NYFD and NYPD, were murdered. The then-New York mayor himself narrowly missed being murdered when the towers came down.

But unlike other public officials who retreated to a bunker, the city’s mayor rushed to the scene to personally help New Yorkers. He was subsequently praised for his steadfastness during this assault on our nation.

Later in life, as a practicing lawyer, he noticed how many American citizens expressed deep concerns about election integrity after the 2020 presidential contest. He bravely accompanied citizens to their respective state so their voices could be heard in front of their legislators — the very same legislators responsible for election integrity. Those hearings are now a part of history, and the voices of American citizens were heard.

Who is this historic American hero? Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. America is thankful, Giuliani, for your lifetime of distinguished public service.
