Giants Week 1 starting quarterback odds: Drew Lock given shot at signal-caller job

Oddsmakers aren’t ruling out Drew Lock being the Giants’ Week 1 starting quarterback. 

DraftKings Sportsbook has Lock at +275 to be behind center when the Vikings visit MetLife Stadium on Sept. 8. 

Sixth-year quarterback Daniel Jones remains the heavy favorite to lead Big Blue in Week 1, sitting at -425 to be the starter. 

But after Jones dealt with a neck injury and a season-ending ACL tear in November, the door could open for Lock as fall approaches. 

In March, Lock shut down rumors that he signed a one-year, $5 million deal to compete with Jones for the job. 

“Daniel Jones is the starter of this team,’’ Lock said. “That’s been conveyed to me.

“Now, I need to come in and push Daniel to be the best that he can be,’’ Lock added. “I’ve had both sides of this. I’ve been the guy to push a starter, I’ve been the starter that’s being pushed by the backups. It’s about making that room the best it can be. If we can do that, the sky’s the limit for this team.’’

Coming off ACL surgery, Jones participated in seven-on-seven drills earlier this month and is expected to do more in camp as the team enters phase three of the voluntary offseason workout program.

General manager Joe Schoen said at the end of last season that if Jones is healthy the expectation is he will be the starter in Week 1 in 2024.

Jones is entering the second year of a four-year, $160 million contract, but has no guaranteed money remaining on his deal after this season.

The Giants explored taking a quarterback in April’s NFL Draft, including trading up for North Carolina’s Drake Maye at No. 3, but opted to stand pat and select wide receiver Malik Nabers at No. 6.
