Rudy Giuliani grins in newly released mugshot in Arizona ‘fake electors’ case

Rudy Giuliani was pictured grinning with his head tilted down in a new mugshot released Monday after he was indicted in Arizona for his alleged role in a plot to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The former New York City mayor has pleaded not guilty to nine felony charges, including fraud, forgery and conspiracy, for the alleged scheme that hoped to see Donald Trump remain in the White House.

Giuliani, 80, is accused of spreading false claims of election fraud in Arizona following the 2020 election and pressuring state legislators in the Grand Canyon State to change the results, which saw Joe Biden win by a slim margin of roughly 10,000 votes.

“This is yet another example of partisan actors weaponizing the criminal justice system to interfere with the 2024 presidential election through outlandish charges against President Trump and anyone willing to take on the permanent Washington political class,” railed Giuliani spokesman Ted Goodman.

“Joe Biden and his allies continue to eviscerate the trust and integrity of our criminal justice system in their quest to take down President Trump and hold on to power. Mayor Rudy Giuliani—the most effective federal prosecutor in U.S. history—will be fully vindicated,” said Goodman. 

The ex-mayor was the last of 18 defendants in the failed “fake electors” scheme to be served in the indictment, which was returned by a grand jury in April. 

The group of Trump supporters are each accused of trying to award Arizona’s 11 electoral votes to the incumbent by submitting names of fake electors from Arizona and other states to Congress.

Giuliani was dramatically served a legal notice of his Arizona indictment at his 80th birthday bash in Palm Springs on May 17 after prosecutors had trouble tracking him down for several weeks. 

The doorman at Giuliani’s Big Apple apartment building refused to let investigators up to his home and would not accept the charging documents. 

Meanwhile, the Republican publicly taunted Arizona prosecutors’ inability to catch him on a podcast and on social media in the weeks before his birthday party.

Giuliani appeared remotely at an arraignment in a Phoenix courtroom on May 21, where he represented himself and pleaded not guilty to all nine charges.

“I do consider the indictment to be a complete embarrassment to the American legal system,” he said during his court appearance, prompting the judge to threaten to mute him. 

The judge at the hearing ordered he appear in court again within the next 30 days for booking procedures and that he post a secured appearance bond of $10,000. 

Monday’s mugshot was released by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as Giuliani went through those booking procedures and was processed in the system. 

Giuliani was photographed wearing a suit jacket, white shirt and a blue tie with white stars in the mugshot. He appeared in a clip from “The Rudy Giuliani Show” earlier in the day wearing the same blue tie, according to a post on his X account.
