Commando! Supply chain issue causes shortage of pants for US Navy

They sea London, they sea France…

The Navy has run out of pants for sailors’ off-base uniforms because of supply chain problems — and they likely won’t get new ones until next year, officials said.

Service members have been stripped of the camouflage trousers featured in the official “Navy Working Uniform” due to “Defense Logistics Agency vendor issues,” officials told military.com

Online out-of-stock notifications informed sailors last week that the pants were “not available for purchase in any size,” and more aren’t expected to hit the shelves until October, the outlet reported.

The ensemble — known in the military world by the acronym NWU — is one of the few that sailors are allowed to wear on the job and out in public, including to shops and restaurants.

But sailors generally have to replace the uniforms more often than other ones because they get worn more and are not permitted to have large stains or rips.

The military branch is “experiencing severe shortages of NWU trousers” in stores and online, Courtney Williams, a spokeswoman for the Navy’s Exchange Service Command, told the outlet.

Just a small number of pants are still available for new recruits, Williams said.

Stock levels of the pants are around 13% worldwide, and the Navy wants new recruits at training schools to have them, Williams said.

News that the Navy had run out of pants, quickly prompted memes and jokes on social media — including one featuring Donald Duck’s feathery bare bottom.

“Sailors will be out there Donald Ducking it,” one the image, which shows the cartoon character bending over in a sailor suit.

Jokes popped up online about the Navy’s pants shortage.

A second observer posted an image of Dwight Schrute from NBC’s “The Office” in his undies — while another quipped, “Time to break out the lavalavas,” sarcastically referencing a kilt.

The Navy has since sent out new vendor contracts and it expects the first pants deliveries in October,  said Mikia Muhammad, a spokeswoman for the Defense Logistics Agency.

In the meantime, sailors can wear other working uniforms off base, such as coveralls or the Navy’s so-called “2-Piece Organizational Clothing,” which features flame-resistant tops and bottoms.

The name of the company that makes the pants and the specific supply chain issue wasn’t immediately clear Wednesday.

A rep for the Navy didn’t immediately return The Post’s request for comment.
