Crash on George Washington Bridge grinds commute to a halt, delays of up to 90 minutes

Commuters heading to New York City across the George Washington Bridge faced 90-minute delays Monday, according to officials.

The painful delays — just days after similar headaches for drivers heading to the city last week — were due to a disabled tractor trailer and a crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway, the Port Authority said.

Cars and buses were encouraged to use the lower level of the bridge — where they still faced hour-long delays, the Port Authority said.

Just last week, New Jersey commuters were trapped in a traffic armageddon after multiple accidents stopped buses and cars headed to the Lincoln Tunnel and NJ Transit trains felled by wire issues — leading some travelers to hop out of buses and start walking along the turnpike.
