Tulane vs. Army odds, prediction: AAC championship pick, best bet

No. 24 Army has a chance to win the AAC Championship in its first year in the conference.

It won’t be easy, though, as Tulane walks into Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y., as a 4.5-point favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Jeff Monken’s group has played very well on offense, leading the FBS with 312.5 rushing yards per game.

Quarterback Bryson Daily leads Army with 1,348 rushing yards as part of its vaunted triple-option offense.

That doesn’t necessarily mean we are headed for a shootout Friday night, though.

Tulane vs. Army prediction

As Daily looks to do it all for the Black Knights, Tulane, under coach Jon Sumrall, will employ an old fashioned ground-and-pound attack.

Both teams run the ball at an impressive clip, with Army averaging 5.4 yards per carry, the fourth-best mark in FBS, while Tulane’s 4.9 average ranks 32nd.

Expect this game to go by rather quickly; the Black Knights run it 54.8 times per game, the second-most in FBS, while the Green Wave run it 42.9 times per game, the 10th-most.

All things considered, Tulane is favored because its defense is more trustworthy. The Green Wave’s unit is rated 19th in FBS, according to Pro Football Focus.

Army is rated 60th and is just not a superior unit compared to Tulane’s defensive line play (fourth-best pass rush in FBS).

Tulane is rightfully favored but I’m not touching the spread and don’t have enough belief in the triple option to bet on Army outright.
