Republican probe into White House cocaine ruined by Secret Service destroying evidence: Comer book

Days after the Secret Service found a plastic bag containing cocaine in the White House in July 2023, Rep. James Comer announced a probe to find out whom it belonged to.

However, less than a month later, the agency admitted it had destroyed the evidence, quashing any hope of answers.

Comer (R-Ky.) had fired off a letter to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle demanding answers as soon as the drugs were found in a West Wing storage locker, by the Situation Room and one floor below the Oval Office.

“I had to abandon the probe I led into the cocaine found at the Biden White House because the Secret Service destroyed the little plastic bag that contained the cocaine a few days after it was discovered.

“And the tapes in the White House — amazingly — did not show the particular location of the discovery,” writes Comer in his new book, “All the President’s Money: Investigating the Secret Foreign Schemes that Made the Biden Family Rich.”

When the white powder was found on July 7, 2023, Secret Service agents ordered an evacuation of the White House. At the time, President Biden was at Camp David, according to reports.

However, the Secret Service wrapped up its investigation in 11 days without ever naming a suspect, saying the agency had “a lack of physical evidence” to work with.

RealClearPolitics reported in August 2024 that Cheatle wanted to destroy the cocaine but faced internal opposition, a claim denied by Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

“The presence of illegal drugs in the White House is unacceptable and a shameful moment in the White House’s history,” said Comer in a press release at the time. 

“Congress funds White House security procedures, and the Secret Service has a responsibility to maintain effective safety protocols.”

A year later, Cheatle resigned following the first assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump at a campaign event in Pennsylvania.
