Skip Bayless boycotts Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl 2025 halftime show over Lil’ Wayne snub: ‘So wrong’

It seems like someone wasn’t too thrilled about Sunday’s halftime performance.

Just minutes before Kendrick Lamar took the stage in New Orleans for the Super Bowl 2025 halftime show, infamous sports personality Skip Bayless announced on X that he refused to watch the production.

“I am not watching this halftime show, out of respect for my brother Lil Wayne, who obviously should be playing in his hometown of New Orleans,” Bayless posted. “This is just so wrong.”

This is not the first time Bayless has expressed his feelings about this year’s halftime show, as he posted a video to his X account on Wednesday further explaining his position on the matter.

“Wayne is New Orleans,” Bayless said. “This Super Bowl obviously will be played in New Orleans, so why wasn’t Wayne chosen?”

Bayless then continued by speculating that the NFL’s choice to go with Lamar could have something to do with Jay-Z, whose company, Roc Nation, has partnered with the league for entertainment purposes.

“I’m assuming this was his (Jay-Z’s) decision and his alone. I’m guessing it came down to Wayne and Kendrick and Taylor Swift for halftime entertainment,” Bayless added. “But, obviously, Kendrick’s ‘Not Like Us’ was on its way to being the Song of the Year, capped off at the Grammys. And obviously, it’s yet another Drake diss track. And obviously, Wayne and Drake are closely associated.”

According to Bayless, the NFL sent Wayne a letter of apology following their decision.

Through an Instagram story on Wednesday, Wayne announced to his fans that he was not going to be in attendance for the Super Bowl.

“Y’all know I’m not going to be there this week, which means I guess there’s a seat to fill,” Wayne said. “Shout out to New Orleans, but I’ve been working on something very special. I got something exciting coming for you Thursday, the 6th. Until then… I’m chillin’.”

Bayless left Fox Sports, which is airing the Super Bowl, last year.
