Suni Lee returns to MSG for NBA playoffs — but it backfires on Knicks

The Knicks guard joked last Friday that the team needed U.S. gymnastics star Suni Lee and actress Anne Hathaway at every game during their first-round playoff series against the Pistons to serve as OG Anunoby’s famous good luck charms.

Lee sat courtside on celebrity row for Game 2 at Madison Square Garden, but things backfired when the Pistons beat the Knicks, 100-94, to even the series 1-1.

Hart plead for Lee and Hathaway to return for the NBA playoffs during an episode of his teammate Jalen Brunson’s podcast, the “Roommates Show,” last week.

It stemmed from the Knicks’ April 6 win over the Suns, which Lee — a six-time Olympic medalist — attended.

Anunoby had 32 points in that game and then posed with Lee for a photo after the win, leading fans to jokes that she was the reason behind it.

Last November, Anunoby crashed into Hathaway, who was sitting on celebrity row, while trying to track down a loose ball.

Hathaway later joked on her Instagram, “I almost got crashed into last night! I always wanted that to happen. Thanks OG!”

The Knicks star replied, “You’re welcome.”

But things didn’t go as planned Monday.

Anunoby was held to 10 points and failed to contain Pistons star Cade Cunningham as he did in the Knicks’ Game 1 victory.

Cunningham went off for 33 points and 12 rebounds on 11-of-21 shooting.

Mikal Bridges missed a wide open game-tying 3 in the final seconds after a furious fourth-quarter rally from the Knicks.

Karl-Anthony Towns was also limited to 10 points and did not attempt a shot in the fourth quarter.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau wasn’t happy about the “huge discrepancy in three throws.”

The Pistons took 34 foul shots to the Knicks’ 19.

The series shifts back to Detroit for Game 3 on Thursday night.
