There are one too many Jordons at Chapel Hill these days, according to Cam Newton.
The former Heisman and MVP-winning quarterback called out North Carolina’s new head football coach, Bill Belichick, for being a distraction to the team as his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, continues to make headlines.
“I find it extremely interesting for a person who always led with this: ‘Do not be a distraction,'” Newton said in a TikTok clip. “We talking more about Jordon Hudson than talking about who’s our starting quarterback. You can’t name me three players on North Carolina’s roster right now besides Jordon Hudson.
“Now you have that same situation with a 16-year-old that you’re trying to recruit. And you got to talk to his momma? This ain’t a good look.”
Newton notes that Belichick had consistently talked about eliminating distractions while the coach of the Patriots dynasty, notably in 2015.
Newton played for Belichick in 2020 when he was benched for rookie Mac Jones.
Former Patriots legend Julian Edelman recently noted how the drama involving Hudson had become exactly what Belichick aimed to avoid in Foxborough.
“The No. 1 thing we used to talk about all the time in New England was distractions. ‘Let’s not make distractions. The game’s already as hard as it is. To prepare for it, to play, to coach.’ And regardless of what her role is, Jordon, yeah, I thought he got an unfair public opinion on the whole thing, because that happens all the time,” Edelman said on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.” “Anytime we do behind-the-scenes this, that, you’ve got someone that represents you, they’re gonna jump in.
“But now that it’s gained and it’s snowballed to what it’s become right now, where we’re talking about it three weeks later, it’s become a distraction. That’s what we all think right now. This is becoming a distraction. We gotta practice what we preach here.”
