Surprise gold stash uncovered by shocked hikers — and it could be worth thousands

These two went from trail walkers to treasure hunters.

Two hikers stumbled across a mysterious treasure worth thousands, if not millions of dollars — and experts are baffled.

The pair was walking along a trail in the Krkonoše Mountains in northeastern Czech Republic in February when they noticed an aluminum box sticking out of a stony wall.

Curiosity got the best of them and when they opened the odd finding, they discovered 15 pounds of treasure — including ten bracelets, 16 cigar cases, a powder compact, a comb, a chain with a key and 598 gold coins.

The lucky two, who wish to remain anonymous, responsibly turned the treasure over to the Museum of Eastern Bohemia.

The treasure is still being appraised as two of the cigar cases have yet to be opened.

The metal value of the coins alone — which weigh 8.16 pounds — is about $360,000, museum expert Vojtěch Brádle has declared, according to CNN.

Although experts are scratching their heads at this treasure finding — including when it dates back to — a 1921 dated coin at least provided them some insight.

But they are confused by the fact that no local coins were found in the mix.

The origin of the treasure is all speculation right now.

Local rumors have begun swirling, with some saying it may be connected to the rich families in the area.

Once the treasure has been analyzed, it will be preserved and put on display at the museum. The hikers will be given a reward based on the total value of their findings, CNN reported.

As if this treasure find wasn’t impressive enough — 12 hours after a mysterious online treasure map was posted online, a San Francisco treasure hunter discovered $10,000 worth of booty in a chest.

The “chest” was a metal box containing cash, metal ingots and rare baseball cards.

A spokesperson for the pirates told KRON 4 that the lucky person to figure out the clues and find the chest was a “value investor & tech guy from Europe.”
