Alicia Silverstone doesn’t ‘want to mess up’ the ‘Clueless’ legacy with reboot: ‘We’ll do our best’

Alicia Silverstone, 48, said she doesn’t want to ruin “Clueless” with Peacock’s upcoming reboot series. 

The actress told Entertainment Tonight that she “never thought” of doing a reboot of the 1995 classic, but she thinks this new show will “honor” the movie. 

“It’s very early stages,” she told the outlet.

 “I’m obviously excited. I never thought that was something that I would ever do because I wouldn’t wanna mess up this thing that we all love so much.”

Silverstone added, “We will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it. That’s the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal.”

The “Clueless” reboot series was announced in April.

The remake, written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (creators of “Gossip Girl” and “The O.C.”), will air on Peacock at an unannounced date.

Silverstone will also executive produce. 

“Totally buggin’… in the best way,” she wrote via Instagram at the time in April, reacting to the news.

Fans of the original mid-’90s flick had mixed reactions at the time of the announcement.  

One person wrote on X, “I kinda need them to not touch this classic.”

Another fan said, “I’m honestly excited. We’ve only had one movie and I’ve never seen Alicia in anything else. Get your bag queen.”

The original 1995 comedy was loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel, “Emma.” 

The movie followed Cher (Silverstone), a popular and wealthy high schooler who wanted to help people around her, but went about it in misguided ways. 

Plot details of the sequel series are under wraps, so it’s not clear if it will include other Austen novels and if the new version will follow Cher as an adult or perhaps her teen daughter.

The original film starred Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy (who died in 2009 at age 32), Stacey Dash, Breckin Meyer, Donald Faison (“Scrubs”) and Jeremy Sisto. 

In 1996, there was a “Clueless” TV series on ABC, but Rachel Blanchard played Cher instead of Silverstone. 

Silverstone told ET, “I can’t wait to step back into Cher’s skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course, duh, because she’s evolved.”

The actress, who is famously a vegan, added,  “This is 2025, she’s not wearing the new stuff unless it’s sustainable or vegan. We’ll have to see how far we can go with that.”
