2025 college football predictions: Why Jeremiyah Love will win the Heisman trophy

This year’s race for the Heisman Trophy has a little bit of everything.

Arch Manning, the well-hyped quarterback for Texas, is the favorite at +650, but there are three other players between that price at 10/1 at bet365 Sportsbook.

Garrett Nussmeier, the veteran LSU signal-caller, is the second favorite at +850, just ahead of Cade Klubnik of Clemson.

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the only non-quarterback inside of 30/1, is the fourth favorite at 10/1.

LaNorris Sellers, who rounds out the top five at 16/1, received plenty of hype over the summer after he finished the 2024 season in great form for South Carolina.

Sellers, along with fellow SEC sophomore DJ Lagway, received plenty of buzz over the offseason and could wind up as two of the most popular options outside of Manning by the time the season kicks off.

Another big mover was quarterback Ty Simpson, who saw his price get slashed in half after he was named as Alabama’s starter for Week 1.

2025 Heisman best bets

Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame (40/1, FanDuel)

The Heisman Trophy is not apples to apples with the NFL MVP. While the latter almost always just goes to the best quarterback in that season, the Heisman gets passed around, with two non-QBs winning it in the last five years.

Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love could make it three in six, so long as the Fighting Irish continue to trend in the right direction.

There’s no secret to how the Irish want to play. They’re a throwback, who wants to ground-and-pound you into submission.

That’s good news for those looking to back Love in this market.

The junior from St. Louis tallied 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns on 163 carries in 2024, carrying the Irish all the way to the title game.

Notre Dame is expected to contend for the championship again in 2025, and if they come close, it will likely mean Love is in the running for the Heisman.

Avery Johnson, Kansas State (50/1, FanDuel)

A couple of injuries limited Avery Johnson in his sophomore season in the Little Apple, but there was still plenty to love about the dual-threat quarterback.

Johnson finished the 2024 campaign with 2,712 yards passing and 25 touchdowns, and he added another 605 yards and seven scores on the ground. In a healthy year, playing for the Big 12 favorites, those numbers should tick up, which would put him Heisman-candidate territory.

Blake Horvath, Navy (400/1, BetMGM)

We’ve gone deeper on this pick here, but there’s still time to get on the bandwagon for the Navy quarterback who finished last year with a ridiculous statistical profile.

Horvath was responsible for 30 touchdowns for the Midshipmen in 2024, running for 17 and adding 13 more through the air.

The Ohio native ranked 20th in the country with 1,254 yards on the ground, averaging 7.1 yards per carry.

If Navy gets into the Playoff, which is not out of the question, Horvath could be one of the favorites for this award.
