Bride furious after groomsman’s girlfriend hijacks bouquet toss with surprise proposal: ‘I feel robbed’

Wedding bells turned to gasps when one bride’s big day got upstaged in the most unexpected way. 

During the bouquet toss, one of the groomsman’s girlfriends snagged the flowers — and promptly popped the question.

“[She] immediately pulled out a ring and proposed to him,” the bride recalled in a now-deleted and widely-shared Reddit post.

“Everyone gasped, and instead of cheering for us, the crowd swarmed them. People were recording, congratulating, the whole nine yards. It completely derailed the moment,” she wrote, per People. 

Catching the bouquet, the bride pointed out, usually means you’re next down the aisle — not that you get to seize the spotlight with an on-the-spot proposal.

The wedding photographer and videographer also got caught in the frenzy, much to the dismay of the woman in white. 

“Even our photographer and videographer missed half of what was supposed to be our photos and videos because they pivoted to the spectacle,” she wrote.

Days after saying “I do,” the bride was still steamed.

“My husband says we should just let it go because ‘it’s done and over,’ but honestly I feel robbed of one of my special moments,” she confessed.

Unsurprisingly, Redditors were quick to weigh in — and most sided with the OP, calling the surprise proposal “tacky” for hijacking her big day. 

One commenter didn’t mince words: “It is extremely rude to hijack someone else’s event.” 

Another broke down the intent versus spontaneity: “If it were actually spontaneous I would think it’s a cute story… But she had the ring with her which makes it seem like she came there with the intent of proposing… That would bother me since she didn’t check with you first.” 

And for those who like their drama with a side of humor? “I’d be sending this girl and her man an invoice for the portion of the wedding they stole. Photographers and videographers included.” 

Some Redditors tried to soften the blow, noting that if it only lasted a few minutes, “then that happens anyway when someone catches the bouquet.”

But most commenters said something along the lines of: “It’s tacky to propose at someone else’s wedding. Especially without permission.”

And this isn’t the first time the internet has erupted over whether crashing someone else’s wedding with a surprise proposal is a romantic gesture… or a major faux pas.

As previously reported by The Post, one woman from Florida was floored when her boyfriend, stole the bouquet during a friend’s Jacksonville wedding and dropped to one knee on the spot.

The bride hadn’t been asked for permission but gave her blessing anyway, and the couple embraced amid cheers.

The moment, later shared on TikTok, racked up over 2.5 million views and sparked a heated debate: some called the move “lazy” and “disrespectful,” while others argued that love — and spontaneity —sometimes trumps etiquette.
