A change in outlook doesn’t make sports’ ugly reality any easier to swallow

Time for a change in disposition. A radical change. I no longer want to be what VP Spiro Agnew described as a “nattering nabob of negativism.”

I’ve been an old, complaining get-off-my-lawn crank since this column began in 1982. From now on, I’m a Roger Goodell acolyte carrying the “Choose Love” banner.

And so I think it’s great that Friday night’s MLB-designed “big game” between the Yankees and Red Sox will exclusively appear on Apple TV+, thus unseen by hundreds and thousands of baseball fans.

That’s right, it’s a good — no, glorious — night for no big-game baseball! You can’t stand in the way of progress no matter how backwards! And this season’s big TV market games carefully hidden from view has been a true and virtuous test to determine how much one can take before he or she takes an extended hike.
