What Trump told Netanyahu, father of ambassador to US who lost son in war as he landed in Israel
President Trump declared that Monday might be Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “best day” as he landed in Israel for the historic hostage release.
Trump touched down at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv at about 9:43 a.m. local time Monday, stepping off his plane to a red-carpet reception on the outskirts of Lod.
“It’s a great day. Maybe your best day,” Trump told Netanyahu.

Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, were seen with Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, at the airport ahead of the president’s arrival.
Yechiel Leiter, Israel’s ambassador to Washington, was also among those to welcome the commander-in-chief at the airport.
He recalled the emotional message Trump gave him as Hamas freed its hostages.
“When you shook my hand on the airport tarmac, you said: ‘You know your son is looking down at you with a smile, you know that, right?’ My heart burst,” Leiter said.

Leiter’s son Maj. Moshe Leiter, 39, was killed just weeks into the war when he walked into a boobytrapped tunnel in the northern Gaza Strip.
“I told you that when Moshe led his forces into Gaza, he said they were going in to bring our brothers and sisters home. He and his comrades began the mission — and you, Mr. President, together with our (Israeli President Isaac Herzog) and (Netanyahu), have completed it.” Leiter said.
Moshe Leiter, a married father of six, served as a paramedic in the IDF and was set to start studying to become a doctor.
“I miss him desperately,” Leiter told Fox News’ “Life, Liberty & Levin” on Oct. 11. “He was also my best friend. I’m very proud of him. I’m proud of his friends. I’m proud of what he represented. And that’s a young generation of lions and lionesses who rose to defend the state of Israel and ensure our safety and security. They gave their lives for the future of the Jewish people.”
