MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler reveals breast cancer diagnosis

MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will step away from the network for a few weeks, the network confirmed to The Post.

Kutler, 46 — who CNN’s Brian Stelter, who first reported the news.

The exec shared her diagnosis with staffers during an editorial call on Wednesday morning, MSNBC confirmed to The Post.

She told MSNBC executives, as well as the cable network’s main anchors, a day earlier.

Kutler, who has three children, plans to undergo surgery next month.

She urged her team to take care of their health even as they face a relentless news cycle, according to Stelter.

MSNBC declined to provide further comment.

Kutler stepped into her role as president at a crucial time for the struggling lefty network, which is tied up in Comcast’s $7 billion spin-off of its cable assets.

MSNBC — along with the parent company’s other cable channels, including CNBC, Golf Channel and SportsEngine — will move to a separate company called Versant.

It will be run by NBCU exec Mark Lazarus. This transition is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

One of Kutler’s main challenges will be expanding MSNBC’s news-gathering capabilities, since the cable channel will no longer be able to rely on reporting from NBC News.

MSNBC will also be renamed MS NOW, short for My Source News Opinion World, as part of the spinoff. Its logo will change from NBC’s trademark rainbow peacock to a blue background with a red-and-white striped flag. 

Kutler joined MSNBC in 2022 after 12 years at CNN, where she rose from executive producer on shows like “Inside Politics with John King” to senior vice president.

She was tapped to lead programming at CNN+ before the network axed the streaming service in 2022.

Kutler stepped into CNBC on an interim basis after Jones, who led the network for four years, announced her departure in January. The company made Kutler’s role permanent the following month.

Kutler went to overhaul the network’s lineup, ousting left-wing host Joy Reid and canceling her show.

“Since joining the network, Rebecca has played a pivotal role in the development of many of the network’s recent program launches, has been a driving force behind MSNBC’s nonlinear growth and strategic investments, and has introduced new and innovative audience-focused products,” Lazarus wrote in a memo to employees in February.

At the time, Kutler told staffers that the next year “is going to be a really exciting time but also a challenging time,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“I think it’s important that we as leaders are honest about that and about the challenges ahead. Our jobs are hard on a normal day, and these are not normal times,” she continued.
