World Series odds: Early picks, predictions, best bets for Blue Jays vs. Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are four wins away from a championship repeat, and the bookmakers like their chances to get the job done.

The Dodgers are strong -220 favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook to win the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, even though the Jays have home-field advantage.

Los Angeles is also the early -148 favorite for Game 1, which is scheduled for Friday night in Ontario.

Nobody was expecting to see the Blue Jays priced as the favorites in this best-of-seven series, but this line does seem pretty hefty.

Then again, the Dodgers are coming off a sweep of the Brewers in the NLCS in which they allowed just four runs.

The way that series ended, with Shohei Ohtani putting together a performance for the history books, is also sure to impact the betting odds for this series.

World Series odds, prediction: Blue Jays vs. Dodgers

There will be plenty of talk about the Blue Jays playing with house money.

Nobody was picking Toronto to make much noise at all this season, let alone be a threat in the American League.

The Jays are pesky, leading the majors in come-from-behind wins, and they’re clearly riding some mojo as all of Canada is along for this wild ride.

Billing this as David vs. Goliath is a stretch — Toronto finished with the best record in the American League and is 7-4 in October, but it is a matchup between a nuisance and a juggernaut.

While the Dodgers don’t have any real weaknesses, the Blue Jays are built to be an annoyance to a team with few cracks.

The top of the order, with leadoff specialist George Springer and the red-hot slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr., can get games on their terms early, and the rest of the lineup is built to battle and frustrate pitchers.

You can’t go toe to toe with the Dodgers and come out on top, so your only option is to hang around and make life difficult. That’s what Toronto is built to do.

The Dodgers have every edge in the tale of the tape, but the Jays are going to be in this thing, and that’s enough to back them as heavy underdogs.
