This 119-111 victory over the Cavaliers — two Eastern Conference heavyweights depleted at the start of this journey by injury — will be a nice little blueprint for what’s to come, thank you very much.

There was a lot of the old on display for all 48 minutes. Jalen Brunson was the wheel man, of course, 23 points and five assists, with enough had-to-have-them plays to remind you who the captain is. Karl-Anthony Towns went from doubtful at 2 o’clock to questionable at 4 o’clock to 19 points and 11 rebounds by 10 o’clock.
