Why the Islanders’ defense looks disjointed — and how they plan to fix it

Divvying up responsibility for why the Islanders have not looked quite right defensively through six games is a complicated exercise without a clear answer.

One noteworthy piece of the equation, though: There have been some tweaks made to Patrick Roy’s system, which largely had been man-to-man until this season.

In a conversation with The Post following Wednesday’s practice, Ryan Pulock described the changes as “small details,” but said the Islanders are still in the middle of an adjustment period.

“There’s maybe a little hesitation at times that we gotta get rid of. Take some of that thinking out and make it more reactionary,” Pulock said. “And then I think it comes down to winning battles. And sometimes we’re in the right spots and we’re not being hard enough. We’re losing that battle.
