Breece Hall sets record straight on if he ever asked Jets for trade at deadline

Breece Hall has been mentioned in draft rumors dating back to the spring.

But there he was on Wednesday at Jets practice a day after the trade deadline passed.

The Jets moved Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams but held onto Hall.

“Like I said from the summer, I’m not promised anything,” Hall said. “I’m not necessarily their guy that they drafted. There’s no guarantees. There’s no nothing. Every week I’ve been trying to go out there and earn it so that’s just what it is.”

There were reports on Tuesday that Hall would welcome a trade.

Hall did not completely shoot those reports down, but he did say he never requested a trade.

“I think there’s just been a lot of stuff out stemming from the summer. There’s been a lot of stuff that’s true or false, so you know I just let that be what it is,” Hall said of the reports. “It’s out there. I’m here and we’re playing Cleveland this week. That’s what I’m worried about.”

When asked if he would have welcomed a trade, Hall said, “I don’t think it’s up to a player to be traded. I think in my situation if I was going to be traded it was going to be whether I wanted to be or not.”

Hall gave a little stronger answer when asked if he was hoping to be traded.

“Nah, like I said if it was going to happen it was going to happen whether I wanted it to or not,” Hall said. “I can’t control what’s going to go on. It’s going to be what it’s going to be. I’ve just got to be where my feet are and take it with a grain of salt whatever happens.”

Jets coach Aaron Glenn repeated what he has said every time Hall’s name gets mentioned as a trade possibility.

“Well, I think I’ve said this a million times over and over that Breece was not a guy I wanted to get rid of,” Glenn said. “I mean, he’s a damn good player.”

The Jets now must decide what to do with Hall beyond 2025. He is scheduled to be a free agent in March. Hall was asked if he wants to be here next year.

“If they’ll have me,” he said.

It was clear that Williams had been worn down by the losing and he wanted to be traded. Hall has been here since 2022 and he said the losing is tough to deal with.

“It’s very frustrating,” Hall said. “I don’t like to compare myself to other people, but I do feel like I’m one of the better running backs in the league. Losing games and getting down early, you can’t always show that. You get down early you have to throw the ball a little more to try to get back in it. That restricts some of your [opportunities] to get carries. At the end of the day, I’m here. I love the coaching staff. I love what A.G. is doing.”
