Nets’ Cam Thomas exits against Pacers with familiar injury

INDIANAPOLIS — Cam Thomas injured his hamstring. Again.

The Nets leading scorer was forced out of Wednesday night’s 112-103 win over the Pacers at Indiana with an injury to the same troublesome left hamstring that ruined last season.

Thomas missed a 15-foot stepback jumper with 6:46 left in the first quarter against the Pacers, appearing to hurt himself on the landing.

He jogged gingerly back upcourt and called to the bench for a sub, checking out 21 seconds later.

The shooting guard was quickly ruled out for the rest of the night by Brooklyn with left hamstring tightness. The severity of the injury is unclear.

“He’s doing good. We’ll reevaluate [Thursday],” coach Jordi Fernández said. “But he was great in the locker room. We missed him. This team needs his aggressiveness.

“And the reality is, when you have the support from a player that is also out that always helps. He was very happy for the win. So hopefully we can have him back very soon. If not, we’ll do whatever it takes. His health is the No. 1 priority for us. And we’ll go from there, next man up if need be.”

Thomas had hurt the same hamstring three times last season, when he averaged a team-high 24.0 points per game but was limited to just a total of 25 games.

After failing to come to a long-term contract extension with the Nets last summer as a restricted free agent, Thomas returned on a one-year $5.99 million qualifying offer. It was a huge bet on himself, as he’s set to be an unrestricted free agent. But an injury in a walk year could be catastrophic for Thomas’ bottom line.

Following his scoreless 5:35 on Wednesday night, Thomas is averaging 21.4 points in eight games.

Brooklyn assigned rookies Ben Saraf, Nolan Traore and Danny Wolf to G-League affiliate Long Island.

Drake Powell, their other first–round pick, was active in Wednesday’s morning shootaround.

He was moving around unencumbered and showing no ill effects from his sprained ankle, hopeful of playing vs. the Pistons.

“I’m working my way back to fully 100 percent. And then shoot for Friday against Detroit. But still just trust the performance team just listening to what they’re telling me to do,” Powell told The Post. “So, an off day [Thursday]. I’ll probably go back to the practice facility, just do some rehab stuff, see what I’m looking like for Friday.”

Terance Mann, Thomas, Michael Porter Jr., Noah Clowney and Nic Claxton started against the Pacers.

Porter (32 points) had his third 30-point game in seven appearances as a Net and the 21st 30-point outing of his career.

Claxton notched his team-high third double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, along with six assists. It’s his third straight game with at least five dimes.

Indiana was decimated.

The Pacers played without star guard Tyrese Haliburton (right Achilles), T.J. McConnell (hamstring), Andrew Nembhard (shoulder), Kam Jones (back), Obi Toppin (foot), Bennedict Mathurin (toe), Quenton Jackson (hamstring) and Johnny Furphy (ankle).
