The Lodge at Gulf State Park, a Hilton Hotel, in Gulf Shores, AL

- Average rates: ≈ $172 a night
Affordable yet absolutely alluring is the The Lodge at Gulf State Park, a Hilton Hotel, in Gulf Shores, AL — a property we’ve had on our to-travel list for quite some time. Located on the tip of Alabama’s Gulf Coast, it’s the ideal beach getaway for you and your S.O.
It’s rated No. 2 out of 26 hotels in the Gulf Shores area, and rightfully so. It features sweeping decks that allow you to eat and lounge right on the beach. It doesn’t get better than that.
One of its most popular restaurants on the property, Foodcraft, is home to great hand-cut steaks, local oysters, coastal favorites and stunning views. The Perch Bar and Terrace is the ideal spot to hit up before then, offering small plates and appetizers.
If you plan on spending all day in the pool (aka, us), The Dragonfly Pool Bar & Grill is where you’ll be, as it serves poolside favorites and refreshing beverages. For the cherry on top, Woodside is a place for family fun, great food, backyard games, gift shop, free s’mores and the best live local music you’ll encounter.
Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale, AZ

- Average rates: ≈ $743 a night
We traveled to Hotel Valley Ho for spring break in April 2023, and it was one of the best decisions we made. Not only is Scottsdale, AZ a dreamboat location but traveling for February is one of the best times to go (you won’t experience that severe “dry” heat that’s commonplace in the peak of summer).
The customer service at this hotel, in particular, was exquisite. The location is an oasis on its own and positioned in the ideal location to remain a quick, 10-minute car ride to the main Old Scottsdale area with a one-of-a-kind restaurant scene and quaint walking grounds.
Additionally, Hotel Valley Ho hosts DJs on Sunday mornings and afternoons, which we adored while lounging by the pool. There’s a spa onsite, a phenomenal in-house restaurant, ZuZu (which we *still* can’t stop talking about to this day, especially for its copycat Chick-Fil-A sandwich and iced lattes pretty much on demand while you’re a guest at Hotel Valley Ho) and a just-as-fabulous suite-style room complete with a full kitchen, bar, living room and the most astounding balcony overlooking the resort grounds. TBH, we’re looking into returning here — and it’s sure to be a romantic trip you’ll remember.

The Sandpiper in Holetown, Barbados

- Average rates: ≈ $1,090 a night
There isn’t more of an exquisite resort than The Sandpiper in Holetown, Barbados, a property we visited in June. With a beach on one side and a magazine-worthy pool resort on the other, the opportunities for R&R are endless. Not to mention, it was the nicest boutique hotel we visited, so much so that we told everyone to visit the property upon our return.
Located in beautiful tropical gardens and set in the middle of a large bay on the beautiful West Coast beach, it’s in the quintessential location, too. The rooms speak to its boutique-style feel and there are a myriad of luxury accommodations, from dining at its signature locale, The Restaurant, to heading over to its serene spa for a Caribbean-inspired moment of solace.
Not to mention, the food is absolutely impeccable. A lavish breakfast buffet is served each morning with a stunning view of the grounds from every angle. The service is to the nines, and we’ve never encountered a more friendly staff. It isn’t overpopulated, either, making it the perfect couple’s getaway with the top-tier accommodations you so crave.
Additionally, Harold’s Bar is open for alfresco lunches, sundown cocktails and casual dinners, with the charming Harold presiding over his team who serve complimentary homemade sorbets on the beach mid-morning. It’s the epitome of romantic and blissful, and we’re counting down the days until we’re headed here ourselves.
