Halfway through the trailer for “The Extra Man” a critic is quoted as saying, “this is Kevin Kline’s funniest role in years.” And while I agree that his performance as an aging escort is a triumph, I think we should call a spade a spade and say that this is truly Kevin’s only role in years.
Nevertheless, it’s a tremendous return to the silver screen for the actor. Invoking the grumpy, sarcastic, put upon schtick that he’s been perfecting for nearly two decades, this could very well see Kevin returning to the Oscar stage next March.
