With a record breaking 13 nominations, the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards were bound to be about Lady GaGa no matter how you sliced it — but from the minute she hit the white carpet (accompanied by soldiers affected by DADT) in a resplendent Alexander McQueen creation, it became clear that many people were tuning in solely to see La Ga. Which is good because her night closing Meat Dress redux was more interesting than half the performances. WireImage

After a series of red carpet misfires, it was nice to see smokin’ hot Sofia Vergara in a dress (Dolce & Gabbana) worthy of swathing her body. Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com

Although it might not have been the most stylish thing on the white carpet, you kinda have to love the tracksuit-cum-polkadot cape that Jane Lynch continuously billowed like a superheroes cape. Although you would too. Don’t front. WireImage

Oh man, Ashley is having a great time. Seriously calm down — you’re getting a little unruly there. Just turn the fun down to like a six, can you do that exuberant lady? WireImage

Jenni “Jwoww” Farley actually slipped into a respectable mini which didn’t appear to be constructed of flammable material or have tear-away snaps. Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com

Non-GaGa Best Dressed #3: Selena Gomez In a very un-Disney dress, the singer/actress looked seriously sexy (can you say that about a 18-year-old as long as its in a totally non-sexual complimentary way?), although a little uncomfortable with the heights her slit reached. Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com

Non-GaGa Best Dressed #2: Florence Welch Oozing glamour in this gilded gown, the Florence + The Machine lead singer killed it both on and off the white carpet. Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com
