After persuading the Golden Globes to go vegan, Joaquin Phoenix then convinced his powerful Hollywood agency, WME, to give up meat for the Oscars.
The agency threw its starry annual pre-Oscars party in Beverly Hills on Friday and offered stars including Leo DiCaprio, Jason Momoa, Wiz Khalifa and Miley Cyrus an entirely plant-based vegan spread.
Phoenix — who brought along his mom Arlyn Phoenix and fiancé Rooney Mara — was seen merrily dining on vegan meatballs, while other guests were spotted congratulating “The Joker” star on his awards season sweep, and the surprisingly good vegan food.
Phoenix has spearheaded an effort to turn this season’s awards shows vegan, beginning with the Golden Globes. When Phoenix took the Globes podium on Jan. 5, he acknowledged the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its “very bold move making tonight plant-based. It really sends a powerful message.”
