It appears the #OscarSoWhite movement may be returning, as comedian Leslie Jones admitted to only casting one vote on her Academy Awards ballot due to its lack of diversity.
“Welp I just finished voting for the Oscars,” the former “Saturday Night Live” star, 52, shared via Instagram. “It didn’t take long because there are no black people on it. So I voted for @cynthiaerivo and abstained from the rest of the voting,” adding the hashtag, #moreblackpeopleplease.
Jones also wished Cynthia Eviro — who is nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Harriett Tubman in “Harriett” — good luck within her caption. Eviro, 33, is the only black acting nominee for this year’s ceremony.
The Academy met major resistance for its perceived lack of diversity during the #OscarsSoWhite movements of 2015 and 2016. Oscar-winner Halle Berry expressed her telling Entertainment Tonight that while her trophy was meaningful, “I guess I’m just disappointed that there has not been another woman [of color] in 15 years that has stood on that stage like I did that night. That’s just wildly disappointing for me.”
