Maren Morris and son Hayes, 4, were sent death threats after she called out Morgan Wallen for using a racial slur

Maren Morris claimed she and her 4-year-old son, Hayes, were sent death threats after she called out country singer Morgan Wallen over his use of the N-word in 2021.

“I mean, the death threat portion for me as a young mother was, yeah, obviously, like, scary,” the “Middle” singer, 34, said on Thursday’s episode of Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast.

“And it wasn’t death threats against me. It was against my son, too. So it’s like, ‘Oh, wow. Now we’re involving the kids, the ones that you cared so much about.'”

Morris — who came out as bisexual in June — shares Hayes with her ex-husband, Ryan Hurd. The pair finalized their divorce in January.

In February 2021, Wallen was caught using the racial slur in video recorded during a night out with friends in Nashville.

“Take care of this pussy ass n—-r,” the “Whiskey Glasses” singer, 31, said to some pals as he headed toward his home.

He later admitted he was “embarrassed” by his actions.

“There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better,” Wallen said in a statement at the time.

Morris, 34, was one of several stars to slam the “Thinkin’ Bout Me” singer over his behavior.

“It actually IS representative of our town because this isn’t his first ‘scuffle’ and he just demolished a huge streaming record last month regardless,” she wrote via X, formerly known as Twitter, at the time.

“We all know it wasn’t his first time using that word. We keep them rich and protected at all costs with no recourse.”

Reps for Wallen did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment regarding Morris’ latest statement about the situation.

The “Bones” singer also said on the “Work in Progress” podcast that she still wonders how people could be so offended by her comment.

“I think it’s because they’re not only, like, defending the person that said this, but they are taking it personally as if I’m criticizing them,” she pondered, adding, “which I think says, you know, a lot more about their interpretation of criticism and what that content was than me as a person.”

Morris then insisted, “I don’t regret it, I don’t apologize.”

“I feel the exact same way as I did that day,” she continued. “Don’t be racist. Don’t be transphobic. Don’t be homophobic.”

Morris has been an outspoken ally-turned-member of the LGBTQ+ community despite getting backlash from many country fans, who are known to be a widely conservative fanbase.

In 2022, the “Girl” singer infamously called out Jason Aldeans’s wife, Brittany Aldean, after the latter thanked her parents for letting her have a “tomboy” phase without “changing [her] gender.”

Morris then shared misinformation about “the genital mutilation of children.”

“It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie,” she wrote via X following Brittany’s remarks.

Both stars have since doubled down on their stances.

Morris’ tension with folks within the country community ultimately led her to quit the genre in September 2023 because she felt it was “burning itself down.”

“If you truly love this type of music and you start to see problems arise, it needs to be criticized. Anything this popular should be scrutinized if we want to see progress,” she previously told the Los Angeles Times. “But I’ve kind of said everything I can say.”

Two months later, though, Morris clarified that she was not leaving the genre and said headlines surrounding her comments were “hyperbolic.”

“You can’t, like, scrub the country music out,” she told Jimmy Fallon while appearing on his show.
