Lee Greenwood agrees he’d be ‘great’ Super Bowl halftime headliner after Mike Johnson suggests he replace Bad Bunny

Country singer Lee Greenwood backed House Speaker Mike Johnson’s bid for him to replace Bad Bunny in the upcoming Super Bowl 2026 halftime show.

The 82-year-old told Page Six on Thursday that he “agree[s] with Speaker Johnson” that he “would make a great performer for any Super Bowl show.”

The Grammy winner cited his previous performances for “various NFL teams every year, especially during their Salute to Service games” — and pointed out that he will be at a Dallas Cowboys game next month.

“I am always thrilled to perform the anthem or ‘God Bless The U.S.A.’ during the games,” he continued, noting that he could get the crowd going before Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, hits the field.

“Maybe the NFL will have me perform this year at the Super Bowl prior to the game to have a stadium full of football fans singing ‘God Bless The U.S.A.’ to kick-off the game!” Greenwood, who has performed at President Trump’s rallies, concluded.

Bad Bunny’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The rapper was rumblings that Taylor Swift might perform at this season’s final championship game.

Johnson, 53, railed against the “terrible decision” to Migrant Insider on Tuesday, while acknowledging he previously “didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was.”

When pressed, the politician explained, “It sounds like he’s not someone who appeals to a broader audience. There are so many eyes on the Super Bowl, a lot of young, impressionable children.

“In my view, you would have Lee Greenwood or role models doing something like that,” Johnson added. “Not somebody like this.”

Over the weekend, Bad Bunny hit back at haters blasting his forthcoming show in a “Saturday Night Live” monologue.

“I think everybody’s happy about it,” he joked on stage. “Even Fox News!”

Danica Patrick was one of the celebs making headlines for hating on the NFL’s choice, tweeting that Bad Bunny should “not be allowed” to take on the role.

Jennifer Lopez, meanwhile, recently raved over the choice to “Today” show viewers, gushing, “[People will] be pleasantly surprised because his music transcends language.

“I don’t understand [the controversy],” she added Monday. “He’s one of the top artists in the world right now. … I’m super excited for people to see him.”
