“Calle Malaga” stars Carmen Maura, the Goya- and Cesar-winning actor and muse of Pedro Almodovar, as Maria, a Spanish 79-year-old woman, who has enjoyed living her life in Tangier – Morocco, on Malaga Street. When her daughter unexpectedly arrives from Madrid to sell the home she has always lived in, Maria is devastated. Determined to stay, she does everything she can to get her home back, discovering love, romance and desire along the way.

The deal was done between Jean-Christophe Simon of Films Boutique and Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing.

Ayouch – a beloved French-Moroccan filmmaker (“Much Loved,” “Everybody Loves Touda”) and producer who is also Touzani’s husband — pointed out Strand Releasing has previously “done an outstanding job on Maryam’s first two films,” “Adam” and “The Blue Caftan.” The latter world premiered at Cannes and made history as the first Moroccan film to ever reach the Oscars shortlist, as well as won more than 60 awards across the world.
“I’m confident that Marcus and Jon will once again work wonders in making ‘Calle Malaga’ resonate in the most beautiful way,” said Ayouch.
Ayouch produced the film with Amine Benjelloun at Ali n’ Productions in Morocco, and Jean-Rémi Ducourtioux at Les Films du Nouveau Monde in France; Simón de Santiago and Fernando Bovaira at Mod Producciones in Spain; Fred Burle and Sol Bondy at One Two Films in Germany; and Sebastian Schelenz at Velvet Films in Belgium.
Films Boutique has so far sold “Calle Malaga” in a raft of major territories, including Australia, New Zealand (Potential), France (Ad Vitam), Germany (Pandora), Spain (Caramel), Italy (Movies Inspired), Greece (Danaos), Hungary (Cirko Film), Morocco (Zaza Films), Poland (Gutek), Austria (Panda Lichtspiele), Benelux (Cinéart), Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), Scandinavia (Future Film) and Switzerland (Filmcoopi).
Strand Releasing’s current releases include Rohan Kanawade’s “Cactus Pears” and Karim Ainouz’ “Motel Destino,” and the Oslo Trilogy “Love/Sex/Dreams” by Dag Johan Haugerud. Upcoming releases include Gregg Araki’s 4K restoration of “Mysterious Skin” and Hafsia Herzi’s Cannes prizewinning “The Little Sister” which was shortlisted to represent France at the Oscars.
