Timothée Chalamet opened up in a new Vogue cover story about his disappointment when it comes to losing awards. The 29-year-old has lost two Oscars, four Golden Globes and four BAFTA Awards, although he did take home the SAG Award for best actor in February thanks to his performance as Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown.” A week later, Adrien Brody (“The Brutalist”) beat him for the Oscar for best actor.
“If there’s five people at an awards show, and four people go home losing, you don’t think those four people are at the restaurant like, ‘Damn, we didn’t win?'” Chalamet told Vogue about being disappointed when he lost at the Oscars. “I’ve been around some deeply generous, no-ego actors, and maybe some of them are going, ‘That was fun.’ But I know for a fact a lot of them are going, ‘Fuck!’ ”

“People can call me a try-hard, and they can say whatever the fuck,” Chalamet added. “But I’m the one actually doing it here.”
Last year, Chalamet touched on what it’s like to lose at awards shows when he told SiriusXM that it’s “uniquely hilarious” to go home empty handed and then have to rip up the awards speech you wrote before the ceremony. He added: “You think to yourself, ‘You narcissistic arrogant prick. On what planet did you think you were gonna use this?'”
While Chalamet has always looked up to actors who “keep things tight-lipped” by avoiding the press and remaining enigmas, he has started to become a lot more forthcoming when it comes to publicity. As Vogue recounted: “When he was promoting ‘A Complete Unknown,’ Chalamet sat down with manosphere podcast hosts and met YouTube stars. He attended his own look-alike contest. He has no interest in making prestige films for a vanishing population.”
For the upcoming “viral videos featuring men wearing giant ping pong helmets. These mascots even followed Chalamet to a surprise screening of the film in New York City. When he won the SAG Award earlier this year, Chalamet told the room that he is in “pursuit of greatness.” He is not hiding that he cares anymore.
“You don’t want to risk being too declarative,” he told Vogue. “But I also don’t want to look back on life and things I’ve put out and go, ‘Oh, little old me. Hey, see the movie if you want. It is what it is.’ No. At worst, you’ve rubbed people the wrong way. And at best, someone will get pulled in and go, ‘Hey, this guy really thinks this thing’s worthy.’ ”
Chalamet is already earning a best actor frontrunner. This means his future slate likely includes many of the awards shows he’s become a regular at in recent years. He’s also developing a motocross movie, “High Side,” with his “A Complete Unknown” director James Mangold, plus he’s filming “Dune: Part Three” with Denis Villeneuve. One thing Chalamet is not planning on doing next is TV, despite getting his start as a young actor on Showtime’s “Homeland.” He’s never gone back to television despite many of his A-list peers taking on buzzy limited series. Asked about making another TV show, Chalamet bluntly responded: “No.”
