Lazer Team – the debut film of Austin, Texas based online content producer Rooster Teeth – has been successfully funded through Indiegogo. Not only has the film surpassed its initial goal of $650, 000 by 345%, it’s also become the most highly funded film on the IndieGoGo platform with a (still increasing) total of more than $2,241,043 raised.

Lazer Team is a sci-fi comedy that is scheduled for release next year. Backers of the film know very little of the plot, though Rooster Teeth have released the following premise of the narrative:

“In the late 1970′s, the Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence project received a one time signal from outer space. It looked exactly as theorists thought a communication from an alien civilization would — unfortunately it has never been decoded. Or so we were told. Unbeknownst to the general public the signal was translated and told us two things:

  1. We are not alone.
  2. The galaxy is a dangerous place.”

The previous #1 film, Gosnell Movie, focussed on the real life story of US serial killer Kermit Gosnell and was narrowly surpassed by Lazer Team today which still has 34 hours remaining to collect funds. A 12 hour live stream, community of fans have all driven the crowdfunding drive through the last month to great success.

Previous comments by the company suggest that the phenomenal support from the online community will take Lazer Team to a whole new level, with each and every extra dollar raised (so far that’s 1.5 million) being fed into making the film better and better. There’s still time to contribute, and grab yourself a bundle of amazing perks at the Lazer Team Indiegogo page.
